Dear Kewaunee Community,
KSD staff and administration have spent the summer planning on how to safely welcome students back to school. While there are many challenges we are working to overcome, we want all families who would like their child(ren) back in school on September 1, 2020 to be able to work with the district to make this happen. The following guiding premises were considered during planning for the upcoming school year:
- We believe learning is best accomplished with in-person instruction.
- We believe holding classes five days per week, as we typically would, is supportive of student learning and social emotional growth.
- We recognize the importance of following CDC, DHS, and DPI guidance when examining and implementing safety procedures for the protection of our students and staff.
- We are offering a virtual learning option for those students who have a health condition, an immediate family member with a health condition, or are not ready to return to in person learning
- We plan to offer a remote/virtual learning option for any student whose family has concerns about COVID-19 that has the family choosing to wait a period of time before the student returns to campus.
- We realize that circumstances may change which could impact our ability to hold in-person instruction.
- We are preparing students to engage in remote learning with 1:1 devices and resources to engage them in virtual classrooms due to the possibility of short/long-term closures.
- Virtual learning days have been built into our updated school calendar. This will allow for students to experience virtual learning and give our staff adequate time to prepare rich and engaging lessons to move student learning forward.
During the coming weeks, our district will continue working to minimize the risks from COVID-19 so we can welcome students and staff back into our schools and classrooms. The current pandemic has presented our community with many challenges. Despite these challenges, we are incredibly proud of how our teachers, staff, administrators, students, families, and community have and continue to be positive and supportive partners in the education of our children.
Sincerely,
Karen Treml
