Dear Community Members:

It is once again time to prepare for the beginning of a new school year.  I hope everyone has enjoyed the summer break and are ready to begin the new year with a great deal of enthusiasm and excitement.

The 2014-15 school year will begin for new teachers on August 19-21 with orientation, as well as planning and professional development sessions.  Veteran teachers will begin the year on August 27 and 28.  The first day for students will be Tuesday, September 2.

As the 2014-15 school year begins we are working on several initiatives that we feel will provide additional opportunities for students, parents and the community as well as improve the operation of the Kewaunee School District overall.

A new student information system (Infinite Campus) will be implemented this year.  Infinite Campus is a web-based student information system that will provide students and parents access to school related information from anywhere at any time.  It combines a great deal of information within one software program thereby allowing the district to eliminate other programs creating a more efficient system overall.  It includes an emergency notification system in the event inclement weather or other emergencies occur.

The State of Wisconsin Educator Effectiveness system will be fully implemented this year.  Educator Effectiveness is a new, more in depth, evaluation system for teachers and principals.  It is one element of several school accountability measures put in place by the state legislature in recent years.  The Kewaunee School District participated in a pilot program for Educator Effectiveness this past year.

Improvements continue to be made in the school district’s technology.  These improvements include the purchase of additional iPads and laptops for students, upgrading computer labs and the school district’s website.  After several years of making improvements in the district’s technology we are confident we have systems in place that are reliable and will meet the needs of our students currently and well into the future.

Enclosed in this issue of the Connection are district goals we will be working on throughout the 2014-15 school year.  These goals were developed by a group of students, parents, teachers, school board members, administrators, and community members who participated in a strategic planning review process in April of this year.  Several staff councils and committees are in place to work on the goals.  Progress reports are submitted on this work two times each year.

Our overall goal is to continually improve the school district and provide the children attending the Kewaunee Schools the best education possible.  With a dedicated staff, and the continued support of the community we are confident in our ability to achieve that goal and continue moving the Kewaunee School District forward.

I am looking forward to a great school year and the opportunity to work with our students, staff, parents, and community once again.  If I can be of assistance to you at any time, please do not hesitate to contact me.
