music

The music classroom has been busy with learning and fun! Take a look at what our musicians have been up to!

  • In 3K, we dance, sing, play, listen to music, and play instruments. Students enjoyed “Hay Ride”, a movement and “spot the picture” song by Stephanie Leavell.

  • Students in grades 4K-1st grade have been particularly focused on dynamics. In 4K, this means identifying and playing loud and soft sounds. Kindergarten uses the terms forte and piano to identify and play such sounds. First grade adds in mezzo piano and mezzo forte, focusing on reading the symbols, knowing the vocabulary, and demonstrating the terms. Pictured are 4K students dancing to “Ya Hear Me, Skeletons?” by Leavell.

  • Music students in grades 2-4 have practiced rhythm reading review through composing an ostinato and sharing it with the class. Second grade has been learning about tempo, using four terms: largo, andante, allegro, and presto. Third and fourth graders have been reviewing their solfege reading skills using Mi/So/La games and large group practice.

  • Adaptive music classes, which span up to high school students, have offered a unique opportunity to develop musical skills through instruments, dance, books, and song. One class enjoyed “Pass the Pumpkin”, while another enjoyed the same “Hay Ride” song.

As we approach the end of October, grades 4K-4 will begin preparing for the winter concerts! Please mark your calendars. We hope to see you there!
