The school year is off to an energetic and exciting start in elementary physical education! Students have been building their skills, teamwork, and confidence through a variety of engaging activities designed to promote movement, coordination, and fun.
Movement and Locomotor Skills: In the locomotor movement we focused on running, galloping, jumping, hopping, skipping, and leaping.
Galloping Tip: Ask your child to show you how their feet are "Selfish Sammy" and "Lazy Larry"! This technique helps them practice the leading and trailing foot action necessary for a correct gallop.
Skipping Tip: We used the "elephant trunk" cue to help students coordinate their arm and leg movements for a smooth skip.
Soccer Skills: Students developed soccer skills using a ball. We practiced:
Kicking: Developing accuracy and power.
Passing: Learning to control the ball to a partner.
Trapping: Using different parts of the body to stop and control the ball.
Seasonal Fun & Cooperation
We celebrated the season with some memorable, themed activities:
Halloween/Fall Stations: This was a huge hit! Students rotated through fun, engaging stations like navigating a lit tunnel, throwing balls at a monster target, catching "ghosts" (scarves), and completing fall-themed puzzles.
Parachute Activity: We ended the quarter with the popular parachute! This was a fantastic way to reinforce cooperation and teamwork while having a blast with waves, mushrooms, and popcorn!
Overall, it has been a fantastic start to the year. Students are learning, growing, and most importantly—enjoying movement every day!
