Annual Notices

Each year Wisconsin school districts are required to inform parents/guardians of annual notices. The listing below provides links to some of the annual notices directly, please note that some annual notices may be provided in a different format such as newsletters, handbooks or mailed directly to parents/guardians as required by statute. As required by 2015 Wisconsin Act 55, school districts are required to publish a description of educational options available to children residing in the district, including public schools, private schools participating in parental choice program, charter schools, virtual schools, full-time open enrollment, Youth Options program, Course Options and options available for home-based private educational program students.  The notice must also include the most recent performance category assigned to each school within the school district boundaries and the district accountability report on the District's internet site. Per 15.7915 of Wisconsin State Statute, the Fond du Lac School District is required to annually notify families of students with disabilities of the Special Needs Voucher Program available to children who reside in the school district. This program was created under Wisconsin Act 55 and will began in the 2016-17 school year. The applicable link to further information is available below.

Academic Standards

The educational standards for the Kewaunee School District are adopted annually at the July School Board Meeting, and reflect the adoption of the Wisconsin State Academic Standards, pursuant to section 120.12(13) and Section 118.30(1G)(a) of the state statutes.

Kewaunee School District is required to locate, identify, and evaluate all children, with disabilities, including children with disabilities attending private schools in the school district, and homeless children. The process of locating, identifying, and evaluating children with disabilities is known as child find. Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that requires states to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities, aged birth to 21, who are in need of early intervention or special education services. Child Find is a continuous process of public awareness activities, screening and evaluation designed to locate, identify, and refer as early as possible all young children with disabilities and their families who are in need of an Early Intervention Program (Part C) or Early Childhood Special Education (Part B) services of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This agency conducts the following child find activities each year.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and Chapter PI-11 of the Wisconsin Statues mandates that all children with disabilities ages 3-21 be provided a free, appropriate public education to meet their learning needs.

Infectious Disease Outbreak Readiness Plan

The Kewaunee School District will take whatever measures necessary to identify, and contain, in cooperation with local, state or national public health authorities, the further spread of outbreaks of infectious disease.

The Kewaunee School District is required to provide information to parents about meningococcal disease, including: causes and symptoms of the disease; how it is spread, and how to obtain additional information about the disease and the availability, effectiveness, and risks of vaccinations against the disease.

Children of homeless individuals and unaccompanied homeless youth (youth not in the physical custody of a parent/guardian) who are actually living in the District, or who were enrolled in the District when they became homeless, shall have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including comparable services, as provided to other children and youth who reside in the District. School Board Policy 5111.01

Wisconsin Administrative Code PI 9.06 requires school districts to self-evaluate the status of pupil nondiscrimination and the equality of educational opportunities every five years. The evaluation must address the following areas and take into consideration the protected groups listed under section 118.13 of the Wisconsin Statutes: sex, race, religion, creed, age, national origin, ancestry, pregnancy, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation and disability.

The Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires school districts to provide annual notice of student and parents' rights regarding student records; the existence of the Student Records Policy (8330) and where copies can be obtained; and, of the opportunity to file a complaint with the Family Policy and Regulations Office of the Department of Education.

Title I Program

Title I is a federally funded program. The federal government, through the state of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, provides funds to the local school district for operating Title I Programs. The Kewaunee School District adheres to the guidelines set forth by the state and federal government and will provide the necessary information to parents regarding family engagement, the qualifications of the teachers and paraprofessionals in the school, and the specific information regarding state and district assessments, including their child’s performance on these assessments.

The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act requires school districts to inspect their buildings for asbestos-containing building materials and develop, maintain, and update an asbestos management plan. School Board Policy 8431.01
