On November 3, 2025 the Kewaunee Title 1 Program welcomed over 25 families and 40 students to our Fall Family Literacy night. The theme was READING IS YOUR SUPER POWER! Students and families participated in several themed literacy activities, interacted with author Mat Heagerty, and made a delicious super hero themed cupcake. Families participated in 4 different literacy stations which were set up around the grade school cafeteria and library. Upon entering the cafeteria, families checked in and received a punch card to keep track of all of the activities they completed. At the end of the night, if all activities were completed or attempted, each student received a new super hero themed book to take home. Author Mat Heagerty even donated 3 of his newest books to be raffled off at the end of the night!

Families were given information about the Title 1 program as well as a super hero themed bag to keep all of their materials in. Families participated in an interactive session with author Mat Heagerty, used sound boxes and play dough, and read with family members in super hero themed tents wearing capes and super hero masks!

Parent of 1st and 3rd graders, Melissa Rae Kabacinski said, “It was great to include a real author with the event. He was very engaging and my kids loved interacting with him!”
