Gifted & Talented
Program Description
The Gifted and Talented Program promotes student learning by coordinating and/or providing extensions of the school district curriculum to sufficiently challenge all students. This is accomplished by in-classroom and extended classroom opportunities as well as through parent outreach.
Scope of Services
The Gifted & Talented Program provides services to students in the school district in the following areas:
Student Identification and Assessment
Support Services
Parent Participation and Outreach
Talent Development
This is closely and importantly linked to today’s concerns for educational innovation and improvement and to recent efforts to formulate and support high standards and challenging goals for all students.
Curriculum and Instruction
Differentiated curriculum (curricular and instructional adaptations that address the unique learning needs of gifted learners) for gifted learners is integrated and articulated throughout the district.
Programming
Instructional pace and programming is flexible to allow for enrichment and acceleration of gifted learners as appropriate. Possibilities for partial enrichment or full acceleration of content and grade levels is available to any student presenting such needs.
Philosophy
A number of underlying principles and beliefs influence us and serve as the foundation for our approach. These are based on contemporary theory and research from several areas of study, including cognitive and developmental psychology, educational psychology, educational administration, curriculum and instruction, and national standards for gifted education. These underlying principles provide a foundation for school practice. Exemplary programming for talent development is the result of careful planning, on-going review and analysis, and commitment to both innovation and continuous improvement.
